Matteo Moretti
Howdy!
Matteo Moretti is a Greek-Italian-American cinematographer specializing in documentary, narrative and commercial work that explores the intersection of culture, environment, and people. He’s drawn to stories that preserve living traditions, often capturing the quiet beauty and complexity of people and places worldwide. Matteo has told stories of mountain communities in Japan, salmon fishers in remote areas of Alaska and founders of Hip Hop in the heart of the Bronx. He was a 2023 newportFILM: Documentary Cinematographer Lab Fellow and his films have been selected to Oscar-qualifying festivals, recognized by Sundance and Adobe and created in collaboration with brands such as The North Face, Orvis and Nike.
Matteo’s senior thesis film, “Just Being Here” ran the festival circuit with several selections/awards and his newest short documentary, “Cicada”, details a story about his grandfather’s changed sense of belonging set in a Greek mountain-village.
You can most often find him drenching his morning oatmeal in a pool of maple syrup or probably adventuring in crocs with a camera in hand.
